My Story

Hello, I’m Candice, the creator and founder of Art Remedy. I am a certified Art Therapist with a Bachelor of Psychology. I am also a trained Neuro-Linguistic Kinesiologist and Touch for Health Practitioner.

I am passionate about helping children process their emotions, particularly loss and grief. Born in Hong Kong, I grew up with both Eastern and Western cultural influences.

My personal journey of emotional healing began when I lost my Mum at the age of 3. Growing up, I struggled coping with my grief, experiencing a number of mental health challenges such as insomnia and social anxiety. With the tools he had, my Dad did his best to teach me how to process my emotions and helped me draw out and work out my feelings, which meant that overall, I had a pretty happy childhood. He fell ill when I was 11 and during this time, I felt like I was falling further down the ‘rabbit hole’ of low self-esteem, eating disorders, social anxiety and depression. My Dad passed away when I was 14 and it was then that I felt I hit rock bottom and began turning to pottery as my form of therapy. As someone who often found myself overthinking, with emotions and negative self talk ongoing in my mind, art allowed me a way to process my emotions.

It was during this time I also discovered Louise Hay’s book “You Can Heal Your Life” which changed my life. Through her book I learnt about how our thoughts shape our world and our physical troubles are often manifestations of our emotional traumas. I started to become more selective with my thoughts and focused my energy in the little blessings, even if it was just a glass of water that day.

A few years later, I discovered Kinesiology. Right away, I loved it’s holistic approach to healing and the understanding that the body’s natural state is to be balanced – we just need to remove the blocks in the way.

More specifically, I loved combining the ancient Chinese Medicinal approach to balancing the Five Elements and Emotions with art therapy to align the body and better understand myself.
